The Library Foundation of Hillsboro
Generous Words
Every $10 donated to the Generous Words campaign will help purchase an exceptional work of children’s, juvenile, or young adult literature for young people across Hillsboro.

Initiatives that Inspire Young Hearts and Minds
In 2020 during the COVID pandemic, the Library Foundation of Hillsboro brainstormed initiatives that would help get quality books to our community’s youth. So we formed the Generous Words program for this purpose, and it has continued to grow and evolve.
One of the first initiatives that came from the Library’s request was to stock Tiny Branches in city parks with new relevant and representative literature for youth.
Another activity that came from our Generous Words brainstorming was providing cache book collections around the city – in Hillsboro’s domestic violence shelter, the police station, and other locations where children could use connection.
A third early Generous Words initiative was to fund free book giveaways for Library outreach events, for example in public parks or at apartment complexes.
In 2024, we began the Storytime Enhancement program: free books distributed once a month to families at selected Library Storytimes, with the goal of helping children build or expand their own in-home libraries.
And in 2025, the Library Foundation of Hillsboro contributed to the creation of Manga and Graphic Novel Kits for young adult readers. These allow young people to check out and read quickly through a page-turning series without having to wait for each individual book to be available in the library.
Your support of Generous Words – whether by maintaining these programs or evolving in new ways to fit our community’s needs – will help ensure local children continue to have access to literature that captures hearts and imaginations with stories of strength, courage, love, overcoming adversity, and more.
